MEXICO CITY — Plastimagen México 2014, billed as the “most important” plastics industry trade show in Latin America, gets underway in the Mexican capital Nov. 18.

Its organizer, E.J. Krause de México, expects 30,000 visitors and says business deals done at the sell-out, four-day event will top $120 million.

The show’s 19th edition will cover 366,000 square feet of exhibition space, 12 percent more than the 18th edition, held in March 2013, according to José Navarro Meneses, E.J. Krause’s managing director in Mexico.

E.J. Krause reports that the net total to be occupied by the show’s 850 exhibitors from 23 countries is 210,000 square feet. Plastimagen México 2014 will fill all four halls of the Centro Banamex exhibition complex.

The program of conferences, scheduled for every morning the show lasts, will focus on recycling, extrusion, blow and injection molding on successive days and in that order. Two dozen specialists have been lined up to speak by conference organizers Mundo Plásticomagazine and industry association Anipac (Industria Nacional de Industrias del Plástico AC).

Mexico’s 100 or so rotational molders also will gather for their third annual congress on Nov. 18-19 at the Centro Banamex.

Anipac President Francisco de Caso expects Mexico’s plastics processing industry to grow by between 4.5-6 percent this year. But he told journalists at a pre-Plastimagen breakfast on Nov. 11 that the national industry’s growth had been hampered by a shortage of raw materials since July, caused by an increased demand for resins in the United States, Mexico’s main supplier.

“However, national production is picking up. The situation is improving and prices have been stabilizing,” he said.
